New Gallery - Recycled glass bead jewellery!

So, some of you may know that I've been making beads out of glass bottles, and then making them into jewellery.

I took some to the Plymouth Image gallery, and some to the Brownston Gallery, leaving myself without any!

so I thought I'd spend some time editing the photos that I miraculously managed to find the time to take before I sent the jewellery away, and I've made a gallery so you can see them!

Here are my favourite earrings:

Winner Chosen!

Well, I chose my winner, and she picked the bracelet as her prize.

better luck next time everyone else! and there will be a next time soon!

Prize Draw!

ok, so I've chosen two things that I think people might like, they have the same retail value.

I will choose a winner at random from my mailing list and they can pick which of these two items they would like:

first is a macrame bracelet featuring 4 of my handmade beads.
its currently a small-medium but it can be adjusted.
Second is a silver cored bead in double helix ekho, it is a lovely purpley blue colour that looks like its over an amber base. This is a fairly small bead but still has a big enough core to fit on your troll/pandora/biagi bracelets, or simply thread onto an ordinary chain or cord.
the winner will be notified by email and will have 7 days in which to respond, and tell me where they would like their prize posted, if not then I will pick another name.

Good Luck everyone!

Happy New Year everyone!

Well, 2010...

I shall start it, as always, with good intentions!

The first one being...to give away beads more regularly, I know that I've been a bit rubbish on that score lately.
so this week, there will be a draw!

more news on that one soon, but for now, I wish you all a happy, prosperous, healthy and peaceful new year!

New Place to buy my work!

I have been working for the last few weeks on a new collection for the Brownston gallery in Modbury, Devon. (find their address on the 'where to see and buy my work page' )

I delivered it on friday so why not wander on down there and take a look!

Pieces included are the not for sale before recycled bead collection, and some new designs featuring a nautilus shell design with my textured tactile focal beads. I also took goddess pendants and silver cored beads, so there's something for everyone!

Photos coming soon!

A few more Zip Roses...

Some new ones:

I made the dusky pink/pale terracotta one up with antique copper coloured findings, I'm particularly pleased with the way it looks.

let me know what you think! leave a comment or sign my guest book!

some fun...

Jelly babies!

These were fun to make! glass jelly baby beads!

REcycled!

I've been having a smashing time lately! with bottles!

I collected various coloured bottles, and made them into beads!
some of them I've made into jewellery:

These are the colours I have so far, and I hope to have more soon.

since bottles are an unknown coefficient of expansion, and they are known to vary somewhat, they are most likely incompatible with each-other, so a bead can only be made from one colour. I can however add different metals and finishes to these beads, including gold and silver leaf, silver wire, pixie dust and cubic zirconias.

hopefully these will be available on the website soon! if you can't wait, feel free to contact me and I can tell you what is available!

More Newness!

More new things! Zip Rose Brooches!zip rose brooch

I have been meaning to do something with textiles for a while, I've now combined the macrame bracelets and beads, with a zip rose! these are made from old zips!  some are never used but old, and some have been salvaged from wherever (cardigans, pencil cases, all sorts!) Isn't it great to have a zip box? much like a button box, but with zips! Each one is hand stitched by me and then my handmade beads as well as cords, chains, lace etc are selected and attached ready for you to enjoy!
They have a nice vintage feel and can be pinned onto clothing, bags, or anything else you want (not skin though, that wouldn't be fun!)

just a thought, I could also put these onto a hairclip, grip or a tiara! mmm pretty bridal type jewellery with a twist!

Summer Bracelets

New!
I've been working on these colourful summery bracelets, they've been popular so far at the Vivian gallery! some coming soon to Plymouth! If I can make enough without selling them first!

prices are £15 to £20

macrame bracelets

Silver cored beads!

I've been busy making lots of silver cored beads, not only have I sent a batch down to the Plymouth Image gallery, but I will be adding more to the website very soon!

so watch this space! (well this one actually, its where the shop is!)

This will include yellow ones, which were requested recently.

I've been working on some new designs using my own frit blends (for the non lampworkers, frit is small broken up pieces of glass) and cubic zirconias. I'm really pleased with these, and not only because I've finally found something I like to make with my frit!

pictures soon!

All done!

I've fixed all the links now! (well I think I've done them all!)

Let me know what you think of the new arrangement!

Website Updates

Those of you have been trying to access my site recently, may have noticed a few little glitches, this is because I'm updating alot of things. apologies for the disruption!

hopefully these changes will make my site look and work better, It should be easier to navigate too.

I'm changing the order of my pages, Ive condensed the main menu down into sub-pages so its not a huge long list down the page.

Theres alot more information on the about pages, and its been broken down into easier to read chunks.

I've added yet another gallery!

I'm changing the title of this page from Blog to News, in order to condense my homepage into a more user friendly, easier to read page that will lead you to where you want to go.

That also means that this page will be updated more frequently, so this is the place to come!

Ive added a whole pile of new silver cored beads to my online shop

so...what are you waiting for? come and have a look at the new bits of my site!

alot of links have been broken or moved in the re-arranging, so you may find it best to use the menu on the left for the time being, as I have to go and find and re-link almost all of my links! this could take some time!

once again, My apologies for any inconvenience caused by the disruption!

Happy New Year!

Hello Everyone!

Just Saying Happy New Year really.

New Things on the way are my bead rings as can be seen on my homepage and in the New Gallery http://www.madelinebunyan.com/page8.htm here.

Currently I've been working on some raised floral and marine themed beads, yet more silver cored beads including some in a new colour from those lovely people at Double Helix, Pandora. This is a really unusual colour which strikes to an intense streaky purple with hints of turquoise and shocking pink.

Still to be developed are blown borosilicate beads and reverse twist beads. Pictures when I get around to it!

Goddess Beads, Forums and Websitey Things

well hello...

The website developments are slow at the moment, I've been busy at the torch playing with some techniques I have been meaning to have a go at. I bought a wonderful Goddess beads tutorial from Teresa Laliberte and got stuck in to making some figurative beads. They started as little fat venus of willendorf type things and have now progressed into ivory coloured statue type things, and I have decided not to make them skinny, but slimmed them down a fair bit, I like to think of them as real women shapes, curvy, and not entierly symmetrical, I've also started giving them a bit more movement rather than standing straight up.

The new stuff gallery ( apart from one random bead that managed to have its photo taken and an elephant) contains all my goddesses in the order that I made them.
this one is the latest.

I have joined some lampworking forums, and found many a bit of interesting information and helpful advice. links to the forums on the links page.

I even won the weekly challenge on the Lampwork etc forum, which means I get to set my own challenge!

I have been trying out some of the new techniques, including marbles, which I have been meaning to do for a while. When I have pictures they will go in the gallery somewhere.

I also gave shells a try, its not exactly working yet but I'm going to work on it.

I'm also feeling a return to fish coming on, I had a brief flit with some koi carp ideas a while back, going to work on those.

Thats about it for now, except to say that as soon as I decide what August's random giveaway will be I will post it here and on the site, so keep checking back, and join the mailing list!

Website Developments

hello again!

well, I've been fairly busy on the website the last few days, the shops finally have items in, albeit one each. unfortunately it seems I can only have one photo per item. To get around this problem I have added a new gallery, 'other views of shop items'  which has all the pictures of the items for sale. everything is linked everywhere possible so that you can find the other pictures easily and then return to the shop easily.

Other developments are a few new links, including glassartists.org where I have my own profile, and a few other artists who I have come across at various times. I will also be working on a page to go on the gbuk site

Also you may have noticed, there is a new random bead giveaway, for people on my mailing list. currently there arent many people on it (good for them, they stand more chance of winning beads) bad for everyone else who isn't in with a chance...go join my mailing list now!

I'd appreciate some feedback on the site please, use the guest book, or email me! (spent a good while making my website emails go to outlook so I can check them easier, no good if no-one sends me any!)

New Designers, London

This was my plinth at new designers for all of you who didn't see it.
The hands are glass casts of my own hand. The cylinders of glass echo test tubes and scientific ware, the glass I use for my vessels is borosilicate tubing, the same thing they make test tubes out of, and the same kind of glass as pyrex.
